Illuminated frame setup and care
How to set up, hang, control, clean and troubleshoot your Lumi Frames, with a quick fix table for the most common problems.

In shortPower the frame on before you hang it, plan the cable route, change artwork with the power off, and clean the front only with a soft microfiber cloth and mild soapy water. If something isn't working, the troubleshooting table below covers the usual causes.

Setting up your illuminated frame
- Unpack on a soft, clean surface. Keep the box and packaging for now: returns need the original packaging, which is also the safest way to ship a frame.
- Check the contents against the list in the quick start guide. Large frames may arrive with the power adapter in a separate box.
- Peel off any protective film from the front panel.
- Power it on before you hang it. Plug the frame in, or fully charge the Edge, and check that it lights while it is still easy to reach.
- Get the remote ready (every frame except the Edge includes one). Pull out any plastic tab in the battery compartment, or fit the battery if it is packed separately, and check it is the right way round.
- Pair the app if your frame has one (Neon and Halo). See controls below.
- Add your artwork, then hang. Art is easier to change on a table than on a wall. The Lightbox is the exception: its snap-open edges let you swap posters while it hangs.
Hanging and placement
Every frame except the Edge comes with a wall-mount kit. The Edge has a fold-out stand and a keyhole for hanging, the Neon can also lean on a shelf, and the Shadow Box can stand on a tabletop.
- Use screws and anchors that suit your wall and the weight of the frame. For the largest Lightbox and Neon sizes and the Jersey case, fix into a stud or use heavy-duty anchors.
- Plan the cable first. Hang plug-in frames within reach of an outlet, and don't pinch the cable between the frame and the wall. Our guide to hiding the cord of a light-up frame compares cord covers, furniture placement and in-wall power kits.
- Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, heaters and damp rooms. Sunlight fades prints and washes out the glow. Our guide on whether LED lights fade art explains how light exposure adds up.
- Choose the wall for the Halo. Its light bounces off the wall behind it, so the halo shows best on a pale, plain wall. Keep the gap behind the frame clear so the light can spread.
Changing the artwork
Switch the frame off first and handle prints by their edges so fingerprints don't show when the light comes on.

Controls
Depending on the frame, you control it with an app, a remote, a button on the frame or an in-line control on the cable. Here is what each one uses and what you can change.

- Remotes: the Halo, Lightbox, Shadow Box and Jersey use infrared remotes, which need a clear line of sight. Point the remote at the frame with nothing in between.
- The app (Neon and Halo) connects over Bluetooth. Install the app named in your quick start guide, turn on Bluetooth, stay near the frame and pair from inside the app unless the guide says otherwise.
- Buttons and in-line controls, on frames that have them, work without the app or remote, which is handy if the remote goes missing.
- Moving effects are optional. Every frame can show a steady light. If anyone at home is sensitive to flashing light, use a static color or a slow effect. Our LED frame safety guide covers photosensitivity.
Troubleshooting
The usual causes are power, a setting or the remote battery. Work through the fix for your symptom before contacting us.

Warning signs are different. If you notice a burning smell, buzzing or crackling, a damaged cable, or an adapter too hot to hold, switch off at the outlet, unplug the frame and contact us before you use it again.
Cleaning, safely for acrylic
Acrylic scratches more easily than glass and reacts badly to some household cleaners. Plastics supplier A&C Plastics warns against cleaning acrylic sheet with ammonia, acetone and certain other solvents, because they can crack it or leave a frosted look, and recommends mild soap and water with a microfiber cloth. Use the same gentle method on the Lightbox's anti-glare PET cover.
- Switch off and unplug the frame, or turn off the Edge, and let it cool.
- Dust first with a soft, dry microfiber cloth so grit isn't dragged across the surface.
- For smudges, lightly dampen the cloth with water and a drop of mild soap, then wipe gently.
- Dry with a second clean microfiber cloth.
- Never spray liquid onto the frame. It can run into the edges, where the LEDs and wiring sit.
- Avoid ammonia-based window cleaners, acetone and other solvents, abrasive pads and scouring powders.
Wipe the Neon's frosted tubes with a dry or barely damp cloth. On the Shadow Box and Jersey, clean the inside of the front only when you have the door open anyway.
Power and adapters
Every plug-in Lumi Frames comes with an adapter that accepts 100–240 V and the plug for your country, which covers household power worldwide. You don't need a voltage converter, and if you move abroad a simple plug adapter is enough.

- Use the adapter that came with your frame. Our frames run at different low voltages, so an adapter from another device may not match. If you need a replacement, ask us.
- Give adapters air. Don't bury them under cushions, bedding or rugs.
- Charge the Edge with its included cable, on a hard surface, while you are nearby. The U.S. Fire Administration's battery fire safety advice is to stop using a lithium-ion battery that smells, changes color or shape, gets very hot, leaks or makes strange noises, and to take old ones to a battery recycling point instead of the trash.

When to contact support
Contact us if the troubleshooting steps don't solve the problem, if anything arrived damaged or missing, or right away if you see any of the warning signs above. Please don't open the adapter or the frame's electronics yourself; unauthorized modifications aren't covered by the warranty.
